For more than three decades, our uncompromising goal has been to make boating simpler, safer, and more enjoyable.
With IBIZA, we strive to create timeless activity platforms that deliver maximum comfort, usability, and safety on board. Our boats are more than mere means of transport – they are robust tools for experiences, developed with a strong focus on ergonomics, hydrodynamics, and technical quality.
IBIZA’s innovative boats are the result of more than 40 years of experience in boatbuilding, and over 30 years of dedicated work developing and producing some of Norway’s most successful leisure and weekend boats.
Our core values – functional design, excellent seakeeping, robustness, and strength – are reflected in every single model. For us, boating is about more than design and technology; it is about the perfect interaction between boat and sea – the very foundation of an exceptional experience on the water.
The founder of IBIZA Boats, Helge Duus, grew up by the waterfront at the seaside in the town of Arendal – an environment that, from an early age, became a true mecca for absorbing sun, sea, salt, and the boating life. Raised in a tradition of craftsmanship, he came of age at a time when recreational boating was beginning to take hold. People gained Saturdays off, and leisure time became a more accessible resource.
In 1976, Master Boat was established to meet a growing market increasingly drawn to experiences on the water.
A young man with a deep passion for boats sought to learn more about the interaction between material and water than could be discovered in his own backyard – or archipelago.
Was it possible to optimize propulsion and seaworthiness relative to available engine power? Did a boat need a deep V shaped hull to run smoothly through swell at high speeds? Was the planing threshold unavoidable? The questions were many, but few had the answers.
Across the Atlantic, there was an environment that almost functioned as a research hub for hydrodynamics – primarily focused on boats designed for rough seas, high speeds, and competition. Helge Duus traveled there with his questions. The answer he received from boat designer Jim Wynne was simple:
“The water hasn’t changed.”
Jim Wynne is best known for designing and patenting the sterndrive for Volvo Penta, as well as for developing Cigarette Powerboats – world renowned for their speed and seakeeping capabilities.
One of the key questions raised was why the development of the deep V shape hull appeared to have progressed so little in the years following Ray Hunt – also known as “the father of the deep V hull” – who laid the foundation for what we know today as modern planing boats, albeit with virtually unlimited engine power.
Continuous development and market adaptation have resulted in more than 3,000 IBIZA boats sold since the company’s founding in 1991. No other Norwegian boat manufacturer has refined and developed premium-segment day and weekend cruisers with the same focus as IBIZA Boats.
Space on a boat is naturally limited. The design of solutions and the placement of functions must therefore be carefully considered – preferably based on insight gained as a user, a boatbuilder, and through integrated technical expertise.
In short, a deep understanding of how to design and build a safe and functional vessel. This has been IBIZA’s established philosophy, continuously refined over nearly 35 years.
